Check out the following link. This is a fascinating and very significant stance that the Diocese of Alaska has taken regarding the environment.

A note from one of the medical doctors in our parish:  I spent 4 hours this morning learning about the new influenza we are presently experiencing.  Normal seasonal flu affects about 5-20% of the population, hospitalizes 200,000 and kills about 36,000 people per year.  The new flu will probably infect close to 50% of the population (40 million) – hospitalize 200,00 and kill 14,000.  It does not seem to be as lethal in general as regular flu. But, it is infecting younger people, thus also killing younger people.  That is because there hasn’t been a flu similar to it since 1957, so people born before that have some immunity.  Children, as usual, are the spreaders of influenza.

Some things to consider…

• Handmaidens preparing the antidoron need to sterilize their hands before cutting the bread.

• No one should touch food if they have an influenza-like illness for 1 week preceding.

• Teplota / zapivka wine after communion…we should all use individual cups.

• Venerating icons…

• The Kiss of Peace…

• Coughing and sneezing…
